Immaculate Heart of Mary School's Pet Food Drive
Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Anderson Township is known for its stewardship projects, earning awards for their efforts.
In October 2014 Debbi Hill, Office and Admissions Manager, started the Annual Pet Food Drive benefiting local elderly who struggled to feed their pets, the SPCA and the League for Animal Welfare. “There seemed a need to assist elderly pet owners in this area and our parents are so generous I knew we would have an access of donations. The SPCA seemed a logical choice as a recipient as they try so hard to help animals.” Over 600 pounds of pet food and treats were donated and distributed. Parents were urged to stop by the shelters to volunteer or adopt one of the animals pictured on the flyer sent home from the school. The last day of the Drive school staff dressed as Dalmatians to the delight of the students.
In October 2015 the 2nd Annual Pet Food Drive was held and over 2,000 pounds of food was collected for the elderly pet owners, SPCA and needy pet owners in Adams County. 732 staff and students dressed as Dalmatians the last day of the Drive.
October 2016 was again a success with 2,019 pounds of pet food donated to the elderly pet owners in the community, SPCA and the United Pet Fund. School staff dressed as Wizard of Oz characters to surprise the students for the 3rd Annual Drive.
